The team recently traveled to St. Louis, Missouri to attend the 14th ASCE International Conference on Engineering, Science,Construction and Operations in Challenging Environments.

Plenary talks were given by Astronaut Dr. Don Pettit and Gregg Maryniak (Google X Prize and Singularity University). Technical presentations were given by lead engineers and designers in the field- including NASA’s SWAMPworks team working on space settlement and space mining. Anthony and Stella plan to incorporate what they learned at the conference into their senior design project and lead underclassman in continuing interdisciplinary projects in this exciting field of civil engineering.

A big Thank You to Dean Schreiner, Ph. D., P.E., for sponsoring our upcoming trip to the ASCE Earth and Space Conference 2014!
Our Senior Design Project at The College of New Jersey is to design a theoretical structure on the surface of Mars under realistic constraints. Both the Geotechnical and Structural team will focus on In-Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU) techniques to reduce the amount of materials that will need to travel to the planet.
